Forty years ago Casa took in street kids from Guatemala City and started an orphanage in Rio Dulce, Guatamala. Today Casa Guatemala is now a thriving school housing impoverished children and orphans on an idyllic tropical rainforest island.

Our Impact
In the Summer of 2019 LWCF made its 2nd annual trip to Casa Guatemala in Rio Dulce Guatemala, to volunteer and provide support to the organization. LWCF Director Sherry Fine and board members KleMote McClean and Harris Goldstein made the trip to complete a service project, and Harris spent most of the summer as a long term volunteer. LWCF also sponsored two scholarships for students in the inner city NYC public school system who have an interest in social justice and volunteerism to join LWCF as a service learning trip. The response for applications was overwhelming and post-COVID we hope to raise additional funds to give more students the opportunity to join us on future trips.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to support Casa Guatemala and our other supported sites in Guatemala, providing emergency relief funds for food, health and cleaning supplies, gasoline for power, and other basic needs.
